British Property Federation

This site contains a number of documents of interest to property lawyers including the Code of Practice for Commercial Leases and the BPF Short Term Commercial Lease, which is available online as "a dynamic interactive agreement. Comprehensive and legally up to date leases can be generated in minutes by completing a simple online questionnaire". The site also gives access to the model lease clauses adopted by the BPF and the British Council of Offices, as well as the "Commercial Property Standard Enquiries", produced by the London Property Support Lawyers Group and endorsed by the British Property Federation

Council of Mortgage Lenders

The trade association for mortgage lenders in the UK. Its members undertake around 98% of UK residential mortgage lending. It represents the residential mortgage lending industry and promotes good lending practices, in particular, by sponsoring the Mortgage Code. It produces a number of publications and has a mortgage calculator on line.

Housing Corporation

Details of registered social landlords and many documents relevant to housing including "the Residents Charter" for housing association applicants and residents which has replaced the eight previous charters produced by the Corporation.

LEASE

The Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE) is funded by Government to provide free legal advice to leaseholders, landlords, professional advisers, managers and others on the law affecting residential leasehold and Commonhold.The site gives access to copies of decisions of the Leasehold Valuation Tribunals under the 1993 Act and the 1985 and 1987 Acts. There are also a number of papers explaining the rights of leaseholders in relation to commonhold, service charges, right to manage, collective and leasehold enfranchisement and other similar material.

LEASE also provides a low cost mediation service (100) as a way of settling disputes without the need to go to court or the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal.

Office of Fair Trading

The OFT has drawn up guidance to assist those drafting standard contract terms in assured and shorthold tenancy agreements so as to ensure that they are not regarded as unfair under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999.
