Law reform

Law Commission

For those interested in law reform there are a number of Law Commission reports to be found on its website in the Property and Trust law section (cohabitation, easements and covenants, replacement of forfeiture). The reports often contain very helpful summaries of existing law. There are also detailed proposals for the reform of "housing law; renting homes" undertaken by the public law team previously headed by Profession Martin Partington who has been completing this project as a special consultant.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (previously the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister)was responsible for the reforms to Part II of the 1954 Act and possible reform in light of the Reading report on the Code of Conduct for Commercial Leases. There are also details of planning policy, other planning matters and various matters relating to housing.

Distress

"Towards Effective Enforcement: A single piece of bailiff law and a regulatory structure for enforcement" is the title of a consultation paper produced by the DCA, which can be downloaded as a PDF file. As its name implies it makes proposals for an overhaul of the law of distress.
